Launched in 2009 by German shipyard Blohm & Voss, “Eclipse” is the largest private luxury yacht in the world at 533′ and she has just arrived in New York City. As one would expect from such a luxurious vessel, this yacht has lots of impressive features such as balconies for guest suites and futuristic submarine and helicopter hangars. “Eclipse” comfortably has accommodations for 34 guests in 18 beautifully appointed cabins. This includes an owner’s stateroom and 17 VIP suites. Of course, the vessel has a wide variety amenities a three-man submarine, a 53′ swimming pool, exterior fireplace, six yacht tenders, accommodations for up to three helicopters, and many others. The swimming pool has a unique feature where the depth is adjustable and it can fully raise to allow the pool to be adjusted to a dance floor.
The 533′ steel hull is powered by quadruple MTU diesel engines which allow her to reach a head-turning speed of 25 knots. She has been primarily been cruising around Europe or St. Bart’s, as her famously private owner Roman Abramovich has preferred to keep her away from the general public, however she has now arrived in New York City along with a wave of excitement. The yacht has a full time crew of 60, as well as innovative and encompassing security features. Despite all this, she will not hold her title for much longer, as a project known as “Azzam” is the construction of a yacht for a Middle Eastern billionaire that could be 590 feet!
