Hatteras Yachts is a legend that began on the shores of North Carolina in 1960 and has evolved into the undisputed leader f production convertibles and motor yachts in the industry. Hatteras began with the Hargrave-designed Hatteras 41 Convertible, which was the first all-fiberglass sport fishing boat her size in the industry. When the market began to demand bigger boats, Hatteras delivered, expanding the Hatteras sport fishing fleet from 50′ boats to 90′ convertibles. Hatteras then began designing and producing a line of cruising yachts that range from 63-100 feet in length.
Hatteras Yachts was born out of the treacherous waters that surround Cape Hatteras. The conditions here lead to the development of hulls that deliver a sharp entry and a soft, stable ride-a ride that has come to be known as the “Hatteras ride”. The experienced and expert naval architects and engineers at Hatteras know that traditional deep V-designed hulls have a higher tendency to roll and incur high hull resistance. Flat-bottom hulls offer less resistance but pound in normal sea conditions. Therefore, Hatteras has developed a series of convex and modified V-hulls that provide the best of both designs. Further, most Hatteras hulls feature a double chine with hull side “step-outs” to help reduce spray while increasing the beam above the waterline. The benefits – a dryer ride and more interior space. This innovative thinking, attention to detail, and impeccable quality have kept generations of customers coming back to Hatteras to fulfill their next yachting dream.
