Today, the largest private yacht in the world, started her sea trials which sent another wave of excitement through the yachting industry. Along with the other features of the yacht, which was designed by Nauta Yachts and built by Lurssen, she has a main saloon that that runs almost 100 feet (and almost 60 feet wide) that is a completely open layout with no pillars at all. Size was not the only thing that was taken into account with this yacht she is powered with two gas turbines and two diesel engines providing a total of 94,000 horse power.
At just over 590 feet, the yacht known as “Project Azzam” has been launched and is now the largest privately owned yacht in the world. She beats out the current title holder, “Eclipse,” by an amazing 54′. Engineer Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi personally assembled a world-class team and lead them in all areas of development of this sophisticated project. It was under his leadership that Azzam was developed from her original concept to her final requirements in general layout, performance, size and exterior style. The ideas started as a thought to build a luxurious large yacht which would feature a timeless and innovative design and could travel at high speed, even in warm and shallow waters, while still providing sophisticated and luxurious accommodation for guests. Working alongside Mr. al Ahbabi, Azzam’s techincal engineering was developed by Lurssen, her exterior by Nauta Yachts, and her interior styling by Christophe Leoni, which all combines to present the most challenging and complex yacht ever built.
