As more and more people begin to enjoy increasingly larger yachts, the demand for deeper water canals and deep water dockage has been increasing alongside it. Down in Fort Lauderdale, FL, there has been a lot of excitement over the Dania Cut off canal dredging project which brings the operating depth of the canal from 10 to 17 feet. This canal gives access to some of the larger boat repair facilities as well as our docks at Harbour Towne Marina which is where our waterside service department is located. One of the major advantages of using facilities located along this canal, aside from the deep water access, is the direct access to the ocean. This way you don’t have to wait for bridge openings when heading out to sea. But now, continuing with the trend of dredging, there is confirmation of a new dredging project in Cape Coral, FL.
Cape Coral City Council has approved a dredging project that is budgeted to cost $3.2 million which will deepen the canals in the southeast cape. Gator Dredging was awarded the project and has already begun operations which are expected to last three years. While this project is underway they are also working on a master plan that will expand dredging into the southwest cape. The goal of the project is to remove a foot of fill from the canals which will lower the operating depth of the canals to six feet.
