Codecasa Shipyards has been building boats for nearly two centuries, making it one of the most venerable yacht companies in the world. Codecasa Yachts produces elegant, completely custom motoryachts manufactured in steel and aluminum or entirely in aluminum from three Viareggio shipyards: Codecasa Ugo and Codecasa Tre, building yachts 98 feet to 295 feet in length, and Codecasa Due perfoming repair and refit, and building yachts up to 115 feet long. Founded by Giovanni Battista Codecasa, Codecasa Yachts’ history begins in 1825 when the shipbuilder settled in Viareggio, began building wooden sailing boats, and started a family dynasty that continues to this very day.
Giovanni’s descendant Giovan Battista Codecasa, known as Tistino, continued the family tradition, undertaking a significant expansion of the shipyard established by his father Antonio at just 27 years old. This investment enabled the company to survive the Great Depression of 1920’s, which decimated the other shipwrights in Viareggio. As the years passed Codecasa adapted with the times, shifting production from sail to power and wood to aluminum. During his time directing the yard, Tistino built nearly 100 boats with sons Ugo and Sandro, who took over control when Tistino stepped down in 1946.
The siblings restructured production into small, specialized units, which enabled them to become one of the pioneers in steel shipbuilding in Italy. In the 1960s Ugo and Sandro took advantage of the increasing demand for leisure craft, shifting production to large steel private yachts. After Ugo’s death in 1973 his son Fulvio took the reins of the company, defining an new strategy that would exploit the specialist niche of the leisure private yacht market. Over the next 15 years, Fulvio increased production of custom luxury yachts, creating the three Viareggio Codecasa shipyards and gradually establishing a distinctive “Codecasa style.”
After all this time, Codecasa Yachts is still run by the founder’s heirs, producing some of the world’s finest entirely custom yachts, garnering rave reviews and awards. Codecasa Yachts was awarded “Best Design” in the large motor yacht category by Yachts Magazine for their 164-foot range of yachts. Are you interested in obtaining a Codecasa yacht of your own?
